Tour 4: Tour to Seven Lakes and Penjakent
Duration: 5 days
In short: Dushanbe – Seven Lakes – Penjakent – Dushanbe – Hissor – Dushanbe
Day 1: Dushanbe
Today is a day of exploring city of Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan. City tour will start from visiting Rudake Park, National library, White House and other state buildings like National State Seal, and House of Parliament. Continue to the largest national flag in the world. It boasts with size of 165m high pole, 30m in width and 60 m in length. Following the photo stop at the flagpole, you will have extended excursion in the Central Museum. After lunch, Gurminji Museum will take you to the land of traditional musical instruments. Later visiting the Asian Bazaar will make you to feel the real life of local people. Fast-moving bazar full of juicy fruits, fresh vegetables, colorful fabrics and other interesting items. The first day you will learn more about the city life of Tajik people. Night in a hotel.
Day 2: Dushanbe – Seven Lakes
Today you will start your nature adventure during this tour. Travel to Fann Mountains (Fannsky Gory), famous in Tajikistan where the beautiful lakes are located. On the way, we will go over Shahriston Pass reaching 3 378 m. The area is popular destination for hiking and trekking. You will have enjoyable day trip to Seven Lakes (Marquzor Lakes). It is about 60 km from Panjakent settlement. On the lake, you will have free time to explore on your own. All seven lakes located in one gorge but on different elevation. Each is very charming with different colors. There are people who inhabit these areas. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 3: Seven Lakes – Penjakent
Today we move to Penjakent, which name means “five villages”. It is located near the Khujant in the Valley of Zarevshan River. The history of the city goes back to 5th-8th century AD. At that time Panjakent served as a remarkable craft and cultural senter of Sogds. That’s why sometimes it is called "Central Asian Pompeii". There were ruler's palace, two temples, markets, rich dwelling houses decorated with numerous paintings, wooden and clay statues of ancient gods in its territory. The large archeological excavations were done only in XX century and found some ruins of ancient city. However, there are remains of dwelling houses and office buildings, the citadel with the palace, the house of artisans, and fire worshiper’s church available to see for visitors. Stay in a hotel.
Day 4: Penjakent – Dushanbe – Hissor
Today you will travel back to Dushanbe within beautiful way to continue the tour. It goes via Anzob pass (3 372 m) and tunnel of Isticlo, popular in Tajikistan. On the way, you will definitely stop many times to capture amazing beauty on your camera. Afternoon, it is time ti explore Hissor fortress, dating back to 7th-17th centuries. It will take about 40-50 minutes to drive from Dushanbe. Afternoon, you will drive about 40minutes from the city to visit Hissor fortress, dating back to VII–XVII centuries. During medieval ages, this place used to host the representatives of Bukhara Emirate here. Nowadays it includes citadel and fortified are of remains. Originally, it was protected with high strong walls and even has many holes for guns and barrels. Its location on the hill means that it was good for protection from external attacks. Archeological researches found the facts about a pool, a big garden and a busy market square with a caravanserai and shops. All these were in the boundaries of the fort. Nowadays only two towers next to the main gate has preserved. Another remarkable sites are “Madrasa I Kuhna” mosque dating back to 16th-17th centuries, the mausoleum of “Mahdumi Azam” from16th century. However, these monuments were reconstructed recently. Drive back to the city and rest in a hotel.
Day 5: Flight
After breakfast in the morning, transfer to airport to fly back home.
