Tour 2: Grand Tour
Duration: 7 days
In short: Almaty – Altyn Emel – Charyn Canyon – Kolsai Lakes – Issyk lake – BAO – Sunkar – Almaty
Day 1: Almaty
The day will start by transferring you for a city tour. Today you will visit the central part of Almaty. You are going to see the Southern capital of Kazakhstan and sites. There is no tour without visiting the Green Bazaar. Being there you will have the opportunity to buy anything you want as well as buy gifts for your family and friends. This bazaar is very big and busy. Later on you can visit Panfilov Park as well wooden complex − Zenkov Cathedral. Visit the Memorial of Glory and Eternal Flame which is made for the fighters who died for freedom and independence of the country. After interesting sites you will be transferred to the Medeo Gorge. It is known for the highest mountain skating rink in the world and the dam. We have no doubt you will like it. Then we will visit the Kok-Tobe hill where the tallest TV tower in the world is located. The wonderful landscape will not leave anyone indifferent. It is one of the best ideas to see the whole country from all four sides. In addition you can visit souvenir shops.
Day 2: Almaty – Altyn Emel
You will meet your guide at 08:00 who will transfer you in Zhetisu. You will drive over an hour on a highway (120 km). Then you will pass by artificial Kapshagai water reservoir. It is the biggest in Almaty region, with the casinos of "Kazakh Las-Vegas" on its bank. After you will arrive to Tamgaly Tas which is considered to be the first sightseeing way on the bank of Ili River. Talking about Tamgaly Tas, it is the inimitable monument of ancient , where you will see images of Buddha’s and texts in Tibetan, Kalmyk and other languages carved on the old rocks. They are unknown and scientists trying to undo this mystery for over 150 years. You will be told about its history and learn more about its development. On the opposite side of the river, you will see the landscape in the style of medieval Kazakhstan. It was built for the filming “The Nomad” movie. Then we will drive to Basshi village (185 km), which is located at the territory of Altyn Emel National Park. The next destination is the Singing Dune (80 km). The height is about 150 meters and a length of about 3 km. It is located in one of the corners of the Altyn-Emel National Park. Just a few kilometers from the Ili river between the mountains of Big and Small Kalkan. You will be impressed by fine pure sand, which starts to "sing" in windy weather like the organ music. On the way you will see a beautiful panorama views and capture unforgettable moments. In the south -thin strip of the Ili River you will find purple mountains of Sogety and Boguty and the white peaks of the Ketmen ridge. On the west the horizon there is the Big Kalkan, and the Small Kalkan from the east. For sure you will be surprised by wonderful nature of Emel. After hiking up to the 150-meter dune, you will return to Basshi village. Overnight is in one of the villagers' guest houses or cozy local hotel.
Day 3: Altyn Emel – Charyn Canyon – Kolsai Lakes
After breakfast you will travel to Charyn Canyon at 08:00. It is about 115 km (2 hours). On the way you will enjoy the grand panorama and walk to the bottom of the canyon. It is about 2 km over the labyrinth of the Castles Valley. Charyn Canyon is a natural park which is famous around the world. It was formed during Paleogene and reminds the Grand Canyon of Colorado River in North America. The height is about 150-300 meters. You will be impressed by different shapes and take amazing photos. Wind and water have created the beautiful "Valley of Castles". The length of the valley is more than 2 km; width is about 20-80 meters. You will have the chance to see the unique nature of great nature and views. We are sure you will love it! Afterwards is Transfer to Saty village and overnight.
Day 4: Kolsai Lakes
After breakfast you will take the vehicle to one of 4WD local cars, such as "UAZ" or "PAZ". They belong to Russian car models. You will drive among the mountain road of 12 km to Kaindy Lake. Kaindy Lake or Birch Lake is situated among wonderful pine forest at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. It was formed in 1911 due to the powerful earthquake. It is important to note that its waters are very cold but at the same time transparent and blue like crystal. It is worth seeing them by own eyes. After walking around the lake you will return to Saty settlement. Overnight is in the guest house.
Day 5: Kolsai Lakes – Issyk Lake – Almaty
Today you will see the Issyk Lake. You will pass by the most beautiful gorges of Trans-Ili Alatau − Issyk Gorge lies along the Kuldja tract. Before caravans travelled over there. Passing there you will see nature and find the burial mounds of Saka period, where the famous "Golden Man" was found and later become the state symbol of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Visit the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “ISSYK”. You will find there the expositions belonged to the history and culture of the Saka period as well as a copy of Golden Man and golden items, ancient ceramics, weapon, elements of horse equipment and the model of Saka burial mound. The tour will take you to an altitude of 1756 meters above sea level. So thus you can see the stunning mountain lake Issyk. It was formed about 10,000 years ago due to colossal landslide. The height is about 300 meters in height. The magical beauty of this lake will inspire you. On the way you will be told about details of the natural disaster happened in 1963. Overnight is in hotel.
Day 6: Almaty – BAO – Sunkar – Almaty
Today you will travel to the Big Almaty gorge. It is situated at an altitude of 2,510 m above sea level. The Big Almaty Lake is one of the most wonderful lakes in Trans-Ili Alatau. The lake is clean and blue and surrounded by mountains. The Big Almaty Lake was formed as a result of crusade of an old glacier. Its waters are always cool - even in July the water temperature does not exceed 10 degrees. But there are some limitations for tourists. You will have the opportunity to see panorama views and enjoy the landscape of unspoiled nature. The Big Almaty Lake is surrounded by the celestial mountain peaks covered with Tian-Shan fir-tree, aspen and juniper. On the way you will visit the Falcon Farm and see trained hawks. Afterwards is transfer to hotel.
