Tour 5: Short tour from Dushanbe to Penjakent
Duration: 4 days
In short: Dushanbe – Seven Lakes – Penjakent – Jartepo border
Day 1: Dushanbe
Local driver will meet you and drive to Dushanbe to start your tour. Today is a day of exploring city of Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan. It will include Rudake Park, National library, White House, National State Seal, and House of Parliament. Later go on to the largest national flag in the world. It has size of 165m high pole, 30m in width and 60 m in length. Following the Ministry of Inner Affairs, you will have detailed excursion in the Central Museum, where you can learn many interesting facts about country. After lunch, Gurminji Museum will immerse you traditional musical instruments. Later go the Asian Bazaar and feel the real life of local people. Fast-moving bazar full of juicy fruits, fresh vegetables, colorful fabrics and other interesting items. Today you will learn more about the Tajik people and Tajikistan. Night in a hotel.
Day 2: Dushanbe – Seven Lakes
Today is devoted to nature rest during your tour. Drive to Fann Mountains (Fannsky Gory), famous mountain area. The way goes over Shahriston Pass reaching 3 378 m. This terrain is popular destination for hiking and trekking among travelers. You will have enjoyable day trip to Seven Lakes (Marquzor Lakes). It is about 60 km from Panjakent settlement. On the lake, you will have free time to enjoy easy hike. The seven lakes situated in the gorge and on different altitude. Each is very charming with different colors of the water. There are people who live in these areas and you can observe the lifestyle of them. Night in a hotel.
Day 3: Seven Lakes – Penjakent
Today travel to Penjakent (“five villages”), which is situated near the Khujant in the Valley of Zarevshan River. The history of the city started in 5th-8th century AD. During that time, Panjakent was a remarkable craft and cultural center of Sogd. Because of this reason sometimes it was called "Central Asian Pompeii". In the territory of old Penjakent there were a palace, two temples, bazaars, rich dwelling houses decorated with numerous paintings, wooden and clay statues of ancient gods. Surprisingly the remains were found in XX century. However, nowadays there are remains available to see: dwelling houses and office buildings, the citadel with the palace, the house of artisans, and fire worshiper’s church. You will spend night in a hotel.
Day 4: Jartepo
After breakfast, continue journey to Uzbekistan.
