Tour 5: Tien Shan Tour
Duration: 7 days
In short: Bishkek – Chunkurchak – Bishkek – Burana – Chon Kemin – Issyk Kul lake northern shore – Karakol – Jeti Oguz – Issyk Kul southern shore – Tamga – Kichi Naryn – Naryn – Bishkek
Day 1: Bishkek – Chunkurchak – Bishkek
You will meet your guide at the airport and travel about 30 minutes to capital city to start your tour in Kyrgyzstan. The first half of the day will be sightseeing in Bishkek. You will start from Pobeda Square (Victory Square), lavish Duboviy Park (Oak Park), Central Ala-Too Square, Old Square, beautiful National Philharmonic and other attractive places of the city. in the afternoon, drive to the south to Chunkurchak Gorge. It is small but magnificent gorge of Kyrgyz Ala Too range. From Kyrgyz language, Chunkurchak means “hollow”. The territory of the Chunkurchak is protected under the National Biological Reserve due to the rare species of mountain tulips. In springtime, you will be surorised by the wide patchwork of different kind of flowers on the lush meadowland. There is a ski resort, where city residents love to spend their weekends in winter. Moreover, it has recreational small hotels. This gorge extends into Takhr Gorge, where the 200 m (656 f) rock facing to the Alamedin River. After enjoying the nature, transfer to Bishkek. Night in a hotel.
Day 2: Bishkek – Burana – Chon Kemin
In the morning, travel to Chong Kemin Valley in the east-north part of Kyrgyzstan to continue your tour. En route, have a stop at the Burana Tower, the remains of old city Balasagyn, the capital of Karakanid State during 11-12th centuries. There is a collection of ancient warrior stones, which is called Balbals. They were the gravestone of heroes who protected the motherland. After climbing to the top of Burana, drive to Chong Kemin. The friendly family will prepare you lunch. Afternoon, you will enjoy 3-hours of horse riding in the magnificent mountains. During riding, you can also have great view of the valley and some parts goes through fir tree forest. In the evening, Dinner and stay in a homestay.
Day 3: Chon Kemin – Issyk Kul lake northern shore – Karakol
Today transfer to Issyk Kul Lake, famous as “the pearl of the Tien Shan”. Issyk Kul is the second largest mountain lake and the largest lake of Kyrgyzstan. It is located at the altitude of 1608m and surrounded by the snow-capped peaks. There are about seventy big and small streams flow into the lake and no one flow out about which you will learn during your tour. For about 1500 years, the lake was considered as a holy and nobody swim and fish. There are endemic and introduced fishes in the lake which will be told during your travel. En route, in Cholpon Ata town, you will visit large collection of rock paintings-“petroglyphs”. Further, Karakol town, the administrative center of Issyk Kul district. Sightseeing in Karakol: Dungan Mosque and Russian Orthodox Church, these are the architectural heritages of late 19th century. Dinner at local restaurant and night in a hotel.
Day 4: Karakol – Jeti Oguz – Issyk Kul southern shore – Tamga
In the morning travel along the southern shore of the lake. It is the blessed part of Issyk Kul. The first stop will be at the Jety-Oguz Gorge, known as Seven Bulls. It is because of the shape of red rock formations. On the other site there is a mountain with form of Broken Heart Mountain, famous in Kyrgyzstan. After having the panoramic view on the hill, you will continue further up to Valley of Flower. The road through the narrow gorge and many bridges takes to a mesmerizing valley of nomadic yurts. It is traditional collapsible dwelling. You can taste national drink Kymyz during your tours. It is made of fermented mare’s milk and has small percentage of alcohol. Then go on driving to Tamga village. Night in a guesthouse.
Day 5: Tamga – Kichi Naryn – Naryn
Today the road goes through the magnificent mountains. You will take most picturesque Kich Naryn Gorge to travel to Naryn city. it will be accompanies by nomadic people grazing their cattle on meadow, high pass offering great panoramic view, where you will feel yourself touching the clouds. You will also drive over Jalpak Bel pass reaching 3000m. Today you see how diverse the nature of the country. Kyrgyzstan is the most mountainous country in Central Asia. On the way, along the lake, we will have an opportunity to visit eagle hunter’s home. Hunting with an eagle is one of the traditional ways of nomadic hunting. He will tell the story of this ancient skill passed from generation to generation. Arrive to Naryn at the end of tour and rest in a guesthouse.
Day 6: Naryn – Bishkek
Return to Bishkek to complete your tour. En route, have a break in Kochkor village, which is outstanding with traditional felt carpets, very popular in Kyrgyzstan. Here handicraftswomen show you how to make these amazing art of Kyrgyz people. The process starts from cleaning and softening sheep wool, then color and press in order to get a felt. After it you can make artwork according to traditional methods. It is possible to create your own carpet together with them. In Kochkor, you can visit carpet shop of local craft women and small museum of antique things collected from this area. Transfer to Bishkek and overnight in a hotel.
Day 7: Airport
In the morning, your guide and driver will accompany you to the airport.
