Tour 4: Around the legendary lake
Duration: 6 days
In short: Bishkek – Chunkurchak – Bishkek – Burana – Chon Kemin – Issyk Kul lake northern shore – Karakol – Jeti Oguz – Issyk Kul southern shore – Fairy Tale Canyons – Bishkek
Day 1: Bishkek – Chunkurchak – Bishkek
The local guide will welcome you at the airport and you will drive about 30 minutes to capital city of Kyrgyzstan. Before lunch, you will have a city tour in Bishkek. It includes grand Pobeda Square (Victory Square), lavish Duboviy Park (Oak Park), Central Ala-Too Square, Old Square, and beautiful National Philharmonic. You will also travel to other attractive places of the city. The second half of the day will be dedicated to explore the nature not far from the city. It will be Chunkurchak Gorge. It is tiny but magnificent gorge of Kyrgyz Ala Too range. From Kyrgyz language, Chunkurchak means “hollow”. The area of the Chunkurchak is under the National Biological Reserve due to the rare species of mountain tulips. If you travel in springtime, you will be charmed by the wide patchwork of different kind of flowers on the meadow. This place is popular in winter as well. Many ski lover come to have holidays in Chunkurchak. This gorge extends into Takhr Gorge, where the 200 m (656 f) rock facing to the Alamedin River. After enjoying the nature, transfer to Bishkek. Night in a hotel.
Day 2: Bishkek – Burana – Chon Kemin
In the morning, you will continue your tour in Kyrgyzstan to another beautiful place Chong Kemin Valley. En route, have a stop at the Burana Tower, the remains of old city Balasagyn, developed during 11-12th centuries. There is an open air museum of ancient warrior stones, which is called Balbals. After having amazing view of the valley on the top of Burana, drive to Chong Kemin. There you will have lunch in friendly family guesthouse. After lunch, you will enjoy 3-hours of horse riding in the gorgeous forest. Chong Kemin valley is rich in medical herbs high in the mountains that travelers enjoy much. In the evening, enjoy your dinner and stay in a homestay.
Day 3: Chon Kemin – Issyk Kul lake northern shore – Karakol
Today travel to legendary Issyk Kul Lake, known as “the pearl of the Tien Shan”. Issyk Kul is the second largest mountain lake after Titicaca in Peru, located at the altitude of 1608m and surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of Central Tien Shan Mountain system and included in most tours in Kyrgyzstan. For about 1500 years, the lake was considered as a holy and nobody swim and fish. The name of the lake from Kyrgyz language means “warm lake”, it has been derived from the fact that it has salinity and it keeps from freezing over during winter time. En route, in Cholpon Ata town, it is possible to visit large natural collection of petroglyphs. Further, continue to Karakol town, the eastern tip of the lake. Sightseeing in Karakol includes Dungan Mosque and Russian Orthodox Church, these are the architectural sites of the city. Dinner at local restaurant and night in a hotel.
Day 4: Karakol – Jeti Oguz – Issyk Kul southern shore – Tamga
Today will be one of the most enjoyable drives during the tour in Kyrgyzstan; the way is going along the pure and untouched shore of the lake. The first stop will be at the Jety-Oguz Gorge, known as Seven Bulls giving the silhouette of giant red seven bulls. On the other site these sand red rocks forms the Broken Heart Mountain. After having the panoramic view of this natural monument, you will continue travelling further up to Valley of Flower. The road through the narrow gorge takes to a magnificent land of nomadic yurts. Here you will have a great chance to taste most loved national drink Kymyz. It is made of fermented mare’s milk and has small percentage of alcohol. Then go on driving along the shore to Tamga village. Night in a guesthouse.
Day 5: Tamga – Fairy Tale Canyons – Bishkek
After having breakfast, travel back to Bishkek, capital city of Kyrgyzstan. En route, you will stop in Skazka cayons. In translation, it means “fairy tale”. As its name, you will find yourself in magic fairytale. You can image different creatures in the sand rock formations. The high castle tower, great Chinese wall, and mysterious animals make you admire. Furthermore, there is amazing panoramic view of the lake here. After exploring, time to relax on the wild beaches of Issyk Kul Lake. Maybe take a dip into the water. Driving further and have a break at Bokonbaeva town. Bokonbaeva is the land of the traditional eagle hunting, here you will meet with one of the local eagle hunters and listen to the story of eagle hunting from the training to the hunting and ask your interested questions. Arrive to Bishkek and night in a hotel. End of tour.
Day 6: Airport
After breakfast pack all good memories from trip and drive to the airport.
