ABOUT ME

Hi, friends!

My name is Cholpon. I grew up in a small town of Naryn in the south-eastern part of Kyrgyzstan. From the early ages my passion was to travel and discover new places. I enjoyed showing around to my friends and teachers who came from abroad to teach English. Further I entered the University to study linguistics but to connect my life with tourism it was not enough. Therefore I went through special courses of guiding by local mentors in Bishkek who run tourist agencies. This is how I got involved into this world of adventures and new experiences.

Traditional drinks

Hello!

Today I’d like to tell you about Kyrgyz traditional drinks. Knowledge of the method of preparation is passed from generation to generation because of this the recipes of nomad drinks are preserved. You can find properly made drinks mainly in villages and in those families that have not yet forgotten all the subtleties of cooking. However, you will be able to try traditional drinks, even when you travel around Bishkek. Stores sell bozo, shoro, chalap and kymyz. Let’s talk about them:

  • Chalap is a traditional drink that is prepared from susmo (percolated ayran – is a kind of sour-milk drink) and mineral water with a slight addition of salt. The drink can be tasted on the streets of Bishkek or bought in shops.
  • Maksym is a carbonated drink made from talkan (wheat and barley ground on grills.)
  • Bozo is an alcoholic drink that is prepared from malt, sprouted wheat, corn, barley or millet. Useful for the body with its properties warms, in general strengthens.

Shoro Company was founded in 1992; the founders of the company are brothers – Tabaldy Egemberdiev and Zhumadyl Egemberdiev. The main brands of the Shoro Company are the national drinks: Maksym Shoro, Chalap-Shoro, Zharma-Shoro, and Bozo-Shoro. Now the company produces and distributes a series of national drinks on the market of Kazakhstan and Russia. For several years, the Shoro company has been cooperating with the international TAM program (Turnaround management), funded by the European Bank for Development and Reconstruction.
Ethno complex Supara is reflect the life of Nomads, culture and traditions. You can easy find it in the yurts, hearth, horses, and hospitality of this place. This complex was designed by Tabaldy Egemberdiev. Now the ethno complex has 7 yurts with different sizes, interior design and style.
Ethno-resort "Supara Chunkurchak" is situated in the Chunkurchak gorge. Owner of this resort is Shoro Company. From this resort you can see alpine meadows and forest belts consisting of juniper, pine, larch, birch, mountain ash and many species of shrubs and where a mountain river passes. Here you can live in the yurt and take kymyz treatment.
Supara Talkan is made from barley oatmeal, ghee, honey and with the addition of local organic walnuts, prunes and pistachios, covered with high-quality Belgian chocolate. Supara Talkan contains no sugar, colorings, flavorings or preservatives. You can find it practically everywhere in Bishkek even in the airport.
The company exports drinks to markets of Kazakhstan and Russia.
Kymyz is nomad drink that is prepared from mares’ milk. In kymyz about 2% of alcohol, despite this has therapeutic properties.
Season of Kymyz treatment starts in the May and continue till the middle of July. Local people come to hospitals in different regions to take a health-improving course. There are a lot of places where you can take it but prices will vary. Kymyz treatment is made individually and person should drink kymyz accordingly to the schedule. Kymyz treatment can:
